Princess Ynez Corrino was an independent young princess dealing with the pressures of her responsibility as heir to the Golden Lion Throne.[1]

Official Dune: Prophecy Character Bio[]

An independent young princess dealing with the pressures of being heir to the throne, Ynez plans to study with the Sisterhood.[2]

Biography[]

Kidnapping[]

When Ynez was a child, some rebels came into her bedroom to kidnap her. Constantine knew he couldn't stop them, so he told them to take him as well. Their parents covered this up in order to avoid looking weak, meaning no one outside the palace knew about it. It was the first time Ynez was aware of politics.[3]

Engagement[]

Ynez was betrothed to Pruwet Richese, who was only nine years old, to unite their two families, giving Ynez's family the resources they needed. Despite the age gap, Ynez told her mother she was satisfied with the pairing as it gave her time to live her life as she wanted while she waited for him to come of age, including training with the Sisterhood to become a Truthsayer.

At her engagement party, Ynez tried to get to know Pruwet, but he said it wasn't necessary for them to talk, as it was ceremonial. After the ceremony, Pruwet was playing with something in his pocket and Ynez was surprised it was a thinking machine, given the technology was prohibited. However, when Ynez's mother said as much, Ynez stood up for Pruwet, but then privately told him if he tried anything like that after they were married, she'd stab him herself.

That night, Ynez went out with her brother, to have one last night. They went to a club, where she hooked up with Keiran. He nearly stopped things, but when she reminded him she'd be in another world soon, he allowed her to continue.[4]

Ynez and her family met with the Richeses the next day because of Pruwet's death. Ferdinand demanded answers and was displeased with the Corrinos attempt to blame his death on his toy. Ynez was unaffected by his death, but hyperventilated when she learned that Kasha had died. Valya told her that Theodosia would be there for her as Kasha had been and left them to get to know each other. Ynez said she only wanted to know how Kasha had died.[3]

Ynez struggled with Kasha and Pruwet's deaths and began to believe the circulating rumor that Desmond had killed Pruwet. She told Javicco about it and said she still wanted to go to Wallach IX for her training. Javicco refused, saying they needed to present a united front as a family. Ynez said that was impossible as long as Desmond was by Javicco's side.

That night, Ynez went to the club, where she found Keiran. They talked about the Great Houses and Keiran expressed his belief that when they defeated the thinking machines, they traded one set of overlords for another. Ynez kissed him, but after a few moments, Keiran pulled back and said he was trying to choose the right path for himself.

Ynez went home and talked to Constantine, who was afraid of publicly accusing Javicco as Ynez suggested. She told Constantine that he was stronger than he believed, that he fought back to save her when they were kids. He reminded her that he hadn't actually saved her, that the Sisterhood did that. Ynez said that he stayed with her, which saved her as much as they did. However, when the time came, Ynez was unable to find Constantine and publicly accused Javicco herself, piggybacking on Harrow's request that they investigate Pruwet's death. She then watched as Desmond admitted to killing Pruwet, but said it was an execution because he had a thinking machine, forbidden technology. He said they needed to crack down harder on that. Then he had the guards bring in two criminals and shared their plan to kill everyone in the room with a drone they'd programmed, a plot he foiled. He then publicly executed the criminals, plus Lord Hagal.[5]

Despite having betrayed her father, when he appeared to announce a new unit, dedicated to hunting insurgents, she stood behind him along with Constantine. However, as soon as she'd completed her duty, she left. When Constantine came to her room, she expressed her anger at him abandoning him and leaving her to accuse their father alone. He apologizing, saying their father thought was coming to the High Council to support him and was proud. Constantine couldn't let him down and apologized for letting Ynez down, promising it wouldn't happen again.

When Ynez learned that Keiran had been arrested at an insurgent, she went to go see him. She used Truthsense to see if he was lying when she asked him if it was all a lie. He told her he cared for her, which was why he wasn't able to go through with killing her family. He chose her over his principles. She then asked if he believed he could build a better Imperium and he said he did.[6]

Ynez later returned to the cells to try to free Keiran. Natalya caught her doing this and ordered her arrested, despite Ynez defending Keiran's actions. Ynez was freed when Valya got herself arrested and used The Voice to order her own release, then released Ynez. She said she had a plan to get Ynez off the planet until they could sort things out. Ynez refused to leave without Keiran, so Valya freed him as well. They went out to a suspensor car, which they took to a fuel depot. Valya said she had a connection that could get them off the planet on a courier ship. She sent Keiran and Ynez ahead while she slowed the guards down. They ran into some guards themselves, but used their training with swords to kill them and made it to the ship. When Valya joined them, they went to Arrakis, where Valya told them the path to their enemy began.[7]
