Hi MoffRebus,

Welcome to the Dune Wiki! We hope you continue to make valuable contributions. You might find the Welcome page and/or the Dune Wiki guidelines pages helpful.

If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, just contact one of the wiki admins (Mcada, JubalHarshaw, and myself), or stop by the Community Portal to discuss more general Dune Wiki topics.

Best regards, Careax 06:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey MoffRebus,

Thanks for your excellent contributions. No, this wiki is not abandoned. The admins are just busy with a lot of other wikis. Sorry to hear you don't respect much of the policies, but they were laid down after quite a lot of discussion with many users. As for the 'Behind the Scenes' sections, it was set up to provide information that was 'not so obvious', such as the actors who played the role in question, or the source of inspiration for some of the concepts found in the books. But I take your point that some of the information included can be a bit mundane.

Your Appearances section is great. I think you've helped to expand this wiki quite a lot, especially considering it was lacking in content from the BH and KJA prequels and sequels. Cheers! --Mcada 10:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: Welcome message

Thanks for the note. I too have recently read the original novels and Brian's sequel and prequel novels. Since I've read them recently, I look forward to adding and clarifying the items already in thei Wiki. Can't wait for "Paul of Dune" to come out Sept 18!!!!!!

Wiki Organization

Hello, MoffRebus I'm sorry for delete your article about Albans, I didn't know it was yours, I shouldn't had deleted at all, I agree with you and I think the best is showing the BH&KJA universe and the Encyclopedia together as you did.

I'm here to tell you I don't want to fight with you, I like your contributions to the Expanded Universe, and would like to propose you a little deal. Seems we are the ones how contribute more here, so, as you didn't read the originals yet, we can do that: You take part to write about and take care of the BH & KJA expanded universe, and I take care of the information related to originals. The Encyclopedia we can take care together. What do you think?

Again, sorry if I was rude with you,

I thought you didn't want to talk to me, so I deleted that post. I was expecting a answer from you.... Lisan Al-Gaib 18:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi again too. I'm sorry, I didn't read your final proposal. I'm going to see it now. Lisan Al-Gaib 23:02, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

RE: Welcome message

Thanks for the note. I, too, have problems with some of the rules on some of the wikis (Is that vague enough?) 8). I'm a contributor on Lostpedia and an administrator on Fringepedia, where we're still struggling to0 get a real community going.

I'm an appreciator (is that a word?) of Frank Herbert's work. I enjoyed the thre "House" books written by BH & KJA, but the others just wore me out and I gave up.

This is my first effort on a wiki that is not episode driven. We'll see what happens....

Hey, thanks for paying attention Roebus, to what is going on around here. I have decided to devote my time and efforts to adding information from Heretics through Sandworms to the Wiki.

I think it would be great if you pen the entry for "Paul of Dune". I am too old, and unfamiliar with the actual computer abilities of posting to do the entry the kind of justice it deserves.

Dune stuff

Hey MoffRebus- Welcome to the world of Dune. I see that you are reading the books. They are very cool aren't they. I have a collection of first editions of each novel except the original. When you get to Heretics, pay particular attention to Sheanna. She is my favorite character in Dune and you will like her qualities as well. I am not the only one in my family that lives 20,000 years in the future, my wife and daughter also reside (at least in our dreams) on Arrakis.

New guy here

Hi, I've been playing Dune games for close to 2 decades and just now I've started reading the novels, and I've developed a healthy addiction. Hope to be a good member here and contribute what I learn.

Keep up the good work

Dune Games

Do you think that Dune games should be under Expanded, or maybe a 3rd category? --Erasmus2 21:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Expanded should only be BH/KJA & DE

Expanded should only be B Herbert and Anderson, and Dune Encyclopedia. Games should have their own tier, on a lesser level. Obviously, I like the son and his friend, and think they have done a great job. I still remember when 'God Emperor' came out, and people wailed on Frank for re-introducing Duncan Idaho, and said, "Herbert is only using the Tleilaxu to re-use characters". As far as the Ultimate Kwisatz goes, I truly believe Frank decided to make DI the Ultimate.-- 00:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

DE Time Again!

It's Sunday night in N America, so it's time for Dune Encyclopedia. Do you know of ANY forums where Expanded Dune is not trashed continually? --Erasmus2 00:36, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Universal Timeline

Hi, Is that you mixing info from the DE onto the Universal Timeline?

You should probably annote it if you are.

I have always found the DE fascinating, and have always felt sorry for its' authors. I remember when it came out, I think in the late 1970s. I thought, "What if Frank Herbert doesn't agree with this?" Then he started contradicting it in Heretics.

Tlulax or Thalim System?

Was Tlaloc from Tlulax, or an Outer Colony in the Thalim system?

I know Butlerian Jihad says "Outer Colony", does Machine Crusade or Battle/Corrin extra-polate further?

It would seem that Tlulax would seem reasonable, since a lot of Bene Tleilax words are Meso-American in origin.

--Erasmus2 14:58, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't know, I took it from the Tlaloc article. I must check it. Also, whenever you have any comments or questions about a specific article, better write it in its talk page, instead of my discussion page. MoffRebusMy Talk 09:42, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I think it should show Expanded Dune, unless the individual clicks on. You have it not shown, unless the individual clicks on it.

As the only other person besides you who regularly contributes, I would REALLY prefer it if you could switch it to the way I just requested.

We need to be applauding Brian and Kevin. Not castigating them. Expanded Dune should be appreciated, not downgraded! Thanks in Advance.

Expanded tags

I've just seen your show/hide thingies - Awesome work sir!

Thanks for sorting it all out and upgrading the articles - I'll be sure to lend a hand when I get a chance.

With regard to honourable Erasmus, I respectfully disagree. I have no intention in ever getting into an edit war with him over wordings like "some perceived discrepancies," but everything I've read by Frank Herbert and about Frank Herbert seems to support my feeling that the new books are incompatible with the originals on all levels. I vote keep expanded hidden (if we're voting :P)

Thanks again!

re: Main page portals

Hi MoffRebus. After looking at it, I agree that the wiki's main page needs some attention. If there are 3 separate areas of the Dune universe (for lack of a better term) with each containing enough content to have its own version of a main page, then portals is a great method to use. The wiki that I think does this the best is The Vault (Fallout Wiki). On their main page, in The Vault section, they have links to their different portals (titled Portal:Fallout, Portal:Fallout 2, etc.) which are essentially main pages focused on a specific game in the series. So my advice would be to follow their example by having a section front and center on the actual main page for displaying links to your 3 portals (with both text links and logos as links), then filling out the rest of the page with things that aren't necessarily specific to any of the portal topics, such as Featured Article, Did You Know, etc. I see that you have over 5,000 edits, so I'm sure you know your way around wiki code, but if you need any help with anything, just leave a message on my local talk page. Cheers. JoePlay@fandom (talk) 19:24, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

The template they use for that section (with the images and text that links to the portals) can be seen here. If you were asking about something else, let me know. JoePlay@fandom (talk) 18:04, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I didn't know you had copied all that onto a test page. To make the formatting appear correctly, you'll need to copy some of the code from their MediaWiki:Common.css file and paste it into the same file here. You'll need to copy all the code in the PORTALS section, the beginning and ending of which is clearly marked with a lot of # symbols. JoePlay@fandom (talk) 19:17, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

Your announcement from earlier this month seems to be paying off. There seems to be new interest in the Wiki from Expanded-approving editors.

Byzantium! The Empire of the Romans!

--Erasmus2 00:26, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

So, are we going to portals soon? I don't want to do the "hide" trick on all of the Mixed pages if we are. I just did the Bene Tleilax "hide" trick, and it took me 90 minutes. But is there is something new soon, I don't want to bother.

--Erasmus2 18:51, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

Looking good!

Hi MoffRebus. The main page looks great, HUGE improvement! Well done. The reason the wiki's skin is still white/blue is because the default skin hasn't been changed. In order for the skin to use the code contained on Monaco.css, you'll need to set the default skin to "custom." To do that, click the MORE drop down menu in the upper right corner. Then select Preferences. Click on the Skin tab and scroll to the bottom. Under the Admin Controls section, set the default skin to custom from the drop down list. Then click Save. After it's saved, you'll probably have to do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5) to clear your browser's cache in order to see the change. NOTE: Whenever you make a change to Monaco.css or Common.css, you'll need to hard refresh after saving. For some general tips on understanding how to edit a custom skin, check out this page at Wikia Help. I specialize in designing custom skins, so if there's anything you need help with, let me know. Wiki Maintenance

Hi there. I recently stopped by Dune wiki... and I can see it needs a lot of help. You may have noticed, I have been going through templates, images, and categories on this wiki trying to get them better organized. However, not being an admin, there is only so much I can do. Have you ever gone through the Special:SpecialPages and looked at the problem categories? There seem to be a lot of issues there that need attention.

Anyway, I have noticed many files and categories etc. that are redundant. I request that you delete these:

...actually, 1-9 on the "Short Pages" list contain no content. There's no point in me listing them.

--Gardimuer 04:12, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

I understand how you feel about the categories. It is frustrating when anyone undoes your efforts, and I apologize.
But I do have a good reason! My idea was that "Male Characters" is a more descriptive and accurate category for them. "Males" just seems too vague... what other "males" would there be other than characters? Male animals? It just seemed imprecise.
Later I may create subcategories for male characters from each of the different Dune books/Encyclopedia and I wanted to have a good organization scheme. My reasoning is the same for the categories "Females"->"Female Characters" and "Individuals"->"Characters"
Once again, I apologize for any frustration. I will stop categorizing them until you and I have reached a decision on this. I hope we can talk about it some more. (And if you decide it should be put back the way it was, then I will take care of reverting my changes.) --Gardimuer 08:02, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

css stuff

Lol, was just typing this... Stars are easy in photshop - noise + Brightness/contrast (a simple trick I learnt from a Russian) I liked the heighliner, only it was a little small and would repeat on larger screen sizes. (Could try upping the image width? might work... or might break the layout.)

Original message was:

It's looking excellent!

Just had a quick cock-about with the image files- they're dead easy to alter if you have any crit. Also uploaded our own background image at:

If you replace the fallout background URL on the (wisely protected) css file, that should work.

--DuneFish "Good fences make good neighbors." 00:31, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

I cleaned up the wiki logo (Wiki.png) a bit (to get rid of those white pixels). Upload it as a new version and see what you think - crit is welcome. --DuneFish "Good fences make good neighbors." 21:06, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

Is the "?1" at the end of background.jpg in the css file necessary? If it has some sort of code purpose, then fair play - it's probably just a matter of refreshing or wikia re-loading or something. If not, can we try loosing it? --DuneFish "Good fences make good neighbors." 15:05, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

I notice many of the items in the css are still labeled ".fallout-table" ".FO3-infobox" or ".fallout_navbox" etc. Now would be a good time to rename them to ".dune-table" etc. That way we can make them unique for this site and we can base any future templates on them without having to label the template component with a Fallout Wiki name. --Gardimuer 00:58, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Categories Discussion

Here is my idea for the "Males" and "Male Characters" categories (and the same for "Females" and "Female Characters"):

I think you are right- "Males" is a useful general category because it can hold articles related to the strictly male organizations. But I think it would be a good idea to have a sub category within the "Males" category just for male characters.

The Fallout Wiki is a bit similar to this wiki in the amount of information it has, spanning many separate installments in the same series. They have a very complex category system of categories within categories. I think their character category system is a good example for character categories on this site. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Also; Thank you for the great new site design! :) --Gardimuer 14:34, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

Ah. I see. The Wookieepedia system is good. I will start converting the "character" categories to resemble that. The other ways of categorizing characters... by planet would be good. By movie/book series they appear in would also be helpful. Since some characters appear in many books... I'm not sure how that would work out. It might be simplest to have a "Characters by book" category and then in that category have pages that list all the characters that appear in certain books. Otherwise we would end up with characters like Duncan Idaho having 10 or more category tags. The individual character pages could be simply categorized by dune characters/expanded dune characters/video game characters.
I found this site when I was looking for a character quote. This site did not appear on the google search, but I was curious if there was a wiki, so I searched the Wikia listings. I suppose there is more than one wiki for this material, so that is hurting the search listing of this site on google. --Gardimuer 00:41, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

fixed typo, but ...

Hi MoffRebus,

Thought I should mention the following.

I fixed a small typo (well, 'grammar-o', I suppose :) ) by changing:

Ten thousands years later during the time of the Ascension of House Atreides, Bandalong...

Ten thousand years later during the time of the Ascension of House Atreides, Bandalong...

(so, superfluous 's' removed)

But now there's a large rectangular piece of space on the left at the beginning of the History-paragraph which I don't know how to fix.

Thought I'd give you a heads up about this; I'd rather not try and fix it as I don't know how I caused it and don't want to make things worse.

Sorry about that!

The page Enemy created

How about an article about Paolo -- from The Machine Crusade? --Erasmus2 04:26, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Butlerian Jihad

Hello Fellow Dune fans Winter has set upon us in North America and so my annual Reading of Butlerian Jihad, Machine Crusade & Battle of Corrin has Begun. I always find something new that sticks out, So far this time I am noticing Xaviers demeanor as the Cymeks get through and Land ...

Template acting up...

Template:Main isn't working quite as it should. Filling in the boxes it looks like this:

Blue Glass Arrow Main article: [[Dune

When really it should look like this: (You can fix it easy enough in the WikiText with a quick " 1 = ")

Blue Glass Arrow Main article: Dune

Any idea what is up? Or is it a glitch with the new editor? (Are you finding the same with any other templates?) --DuneFish "Good fences make good neighbors." 18:05, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

Did You Know?

Can you unlock the 'Did You Know' on the Front Page. I promise to be good, and not delete anything.

Hi Rebus, I'm apologize not to have written this message earlier, I did not know how to do it.

I'm working on Prad Vidal's biography, as well as I'm preparing one about the Ecazis Armand and Sanya. Do you remember what was the name of Armand's brother? I think it was Theo Ecaz, but I do not remember it exactly.

I link the biographies I made with XD links because they contain in the majority of cases, more valuable information and expanded one.

All best wishes,

About re-editing of the pages I made

Hi ! Thanks for your reply. I'm new here, and didn't know what the XD or DE meant, nor the limitation of the dunewiki (Frank Herbert only).
I'm also glad you found the already made Abulurd page for me, since I wanted to contribute by writing something about him, - and also like to read more about him especially. (I find his story quite intriguing, and I really like the guy).

However, if not Brian or/and Kevin are wrong, they call her Margot rAshino-Zea, not with "E". If you could look further into that issue, I'd be grateful.

It's kindof stupid I didnt knew about this page until recently. I've been a Dune fan since Westwood's Dune2 came out. (I'm 29 ys)

Hey, Can you fix the XD/DE for Holtzman. When you did the redirect to Tio Holtzman, it messed up on the top. I have been fiddling with it for an hour. I think the only way to fix it is to reverse the redirect back to Holtzman/XD.

dasI need some asssitance on Norma Cenva and Aurelius Venport entreis. I am reading the books right now, and in Dune: The Butlerian Jihad, it shows that Aurelius Venport is Norma's father. But in Dune: The Machine Crusade it says that Aurelius is only 10 years Norma's elder, and by the end of the book, they are lovers.Soon to be married. This is an inconsistancy.

Also, at the end of Dune: The Butlerian Jihad, Norma has only one son, Adrian Venport, as Aurelius and Zufa Cenva die. At the beginning of Dune: The Machine Crusade, She has one elder son, two daughters, and two younger sons. Where do the children come from?

Please help? How should this be entered into the entries? I don't know how to add headings..

E-mail me if you would please.

Password Stolen?

Can you see if the computer that I allegedly deleted all that info about the Butlerian Jihad/XD was from the usual computer that I use? Obviously I would never delete info about the Butlerian Jihad. Compare the computer that the deletion was done from to other users on the Wiki. I would like to know who it was.

Very rarely do I EVER want information or pages deleted, and usually protest vehemently when it occurs.

I started a page before I created an account. Could someone please delete it for me?

Could you please delete this page: ? I started a page before I created an account. I'm creating an account now. :)

The current favicon for this wiki (the little icon that shows up in bookmarks and page tab when a user is viewing this site) has white pixels around its edges. It is noticeable in browsers that are darker colored. If you think it would be ok, I would like to upload a cleaner version. A slightly darker version of this "Venus" icon was what I had in mind: [1] Do you think it's a good idea? ~ Gardimuer { ʈalk } 01:46, June 15, 2010 (UTC)
