Tleilax (also known as Tleilaxa) is the sole planet in the Thalim star system, and was home to the Tlulaxa - a society of genetically altered highly religious, and xenophobic humans. Tleilax was also the home of the Tleilaxu, a race of humans composed of genetic scientists and Face Dancers.

History

The Butlerian Jihad

Prior to the Butlerian Jihad, it was known as Tlulax, an Unallied planet, and was known for providing slaves and biological material. It was widely thought that the Tlulaxa ran vast organ farms, growing body parts from viable cells, which they sold during wartime to the battlefield surgeons. The truth, however, was that most of the organs were taken from what the Tleilaxu considered useless slaves. Some of these useless slaves turned out to be wounded soldiers.

Corrino and Atreides Empire

Millennia later, during the Corrino and Atreides Empire, the planet was called Tleilax and was known primarily for two things; Tleilax was the location of a renegade training center for Mentats, and was noted as the source of Twisted mentats. During the time of Emperor Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, a secondary city on the planet, Thalidei, was the site of the failed Tleilaxu Kwisatz Haderach program.

Environment

Environmentally Tleilax was a beautiful Earth-like world, with a nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere. It contained many areas of manicured terrain and vegetation.

It was home to several conurbations, chiefly the Tleilaxu holy city of Bandalong, which was reserved exclusively for Tleilaxu natives. Another such city was Thalidei, where non-Tleilaxu were allowed to live under close supervision, such as the Fenring Family during the first years of Paul Atreides reign. Scattered in and around the urban areas were large light industrial facilities which were used for the production of biological components and lifeforms, including Face Dancers and Gholas.
