I removed the parts from Prelude to Dune, as no Expanded Dune works are allowed to be posted on Original Dune pages.

Long ago... Edit

There is a strong belief around here, that all DUNE should be separated into the 3 origins of DUNE that it begins with, henceforth called Portals.

Original [OR]- The 6 works of Frank Herbert. Expanded [XD]- The works of Brian Herbert [Frank's son] and Kevin J Anderson. Dune Encylcopedia [DE]- The tome written by various authors and Willis McNeely in the mid 1980s.

No XD or DE material is allowed on OR Dune, as the people who are exclusively Original DUNE readers/posters, many, many do not support any XD Dune.

So last year, all regular readers/posters of the 3 factions, decided to divide up the web-site into the 3 exclusive parts.

I have been around for years [since the late 1970s] when it comes to DUNE. This is really the one place where all 3 DUNE factions, can post and get along.

If you want to post from Prelude, Legends, Heroes, or the Sequels, [or the short stories]--and the topic is already on Original Dune -- you should probably post it on the XD version of the topic.

By the way, I am not crazy about the 3 Portals, but it seems to work.

It's also worth noting the reason for division - serious discrepancies between the Original books and the Expanded books. However much you enjoy the new books (and I know a lot of people do) it's immediately obvious that new and old represent fundamentally different and unique canons - this wiki is organised accordingly. At the very least this avoids contradictory articles.
An incomplete list of discrepancies can be found here: Some are pretty minor, but others drastically change some of the great stuff, subtext and allusions that Frank Herbert wrote into his books.
