The Suboid Revolt was a rebellion in which the suboid population of the planet Ix, assisted by the Tleilaxu and the Sardaukar, revolted against the ruling House Vernius and their perceived violations of the commandments of the Butlerian Jihad.

History[]

In 10153 AG, the highly religious suboid lower class of Ix began to grow uneasy with what the Vernius family was ordering them to create, and were extremely worried to not violate the prime commandment of the Butlerian Jihad against producing thinking machines found in the Orange Catholic Bible. While Leto Atreides witnessed their unrest in a rally and attempted to warn the ruling house of this, he was for the most part unsuccessful in provoking any quelling of the disturbances.

Meanwhile, the Bene Tleilax proposed the beginning of what would become Project Amal to Padishah Emperor Elrood Corrino IX. In this new project, they would create synthetic melange in order to remove dependence upon the planet Arrakis, by that time the only source of melange in the Known Universe. Elrood accepted this proposal, which was in fact organised by Crown Prince Shaddam Corrino and his good friend Count Hasimir Fenring.

If the project were to achieve success, however, the Tleilaxu required equipment and resources, a place in which to do their research with an appropriate technological base and industrial facilities, preferably ones that were already functional and well defended. In order to also obliterate his old rivals, the Vernius family, Elrood and the Tleilaxu privately decided on Ix.

A group of Bene Tleilax, who were led by the Master Researcher Hidar Fen Ajidica, decided to take advantage of the unrest among the suboids. For months prior to the revolt, they secretly stirred up rebellion amongst the already uneasy suboids.

Eventually, the suboids, backed up by Tleilaxu, managed to blow two of the diamond columns, and part of the overhead crust of Vernii collapsed, resulting to serious damage of the city. Leto Atreides I and Rhombur Vernius were escorted by Commander Zhaz who guided them in a secret corridor and a railcar that would lead them to the crust caverns. Another explosion occurred which destroyed a walkbridge, sending pedestrians to their doom; comcommand learned that the Tleilaxu were involved, and their engineers had blown the recycling lines and the pipelines that feed heat from the molten core of the planet. During the tumult an explosion occurred in the Guild Embassy Building and S'tina Pilru was killed.

Courier Yuta Brey was transported immediately to Kaitain and notify the Emperor about the problem. She and ambassador Cammar Pilru had an audience with the emperor opposing Mofra Tooy of the Tleilaxu, who claimed that the Ixians violated the Butlerian Jihad. Elrood gave the Tleilaxu two days to "compile the evidence" before stopping the hostilities, backing the Jihad Appendix of the Great Convention. Enraged for the emperor's indifference, Cammar planned to call a Security Council meeting within the Landsraad. Meanwhile, the Ixians did not manage to stand their ground and were herded in smaller and smaller areas. Through well-planned sabotage and carefully arranged bottlenecks, the Tleilaxu managed to control most of the underworld. The suboids who were manipulated by the invaders, vastly outnumbered the Ixians.

When Rhombur and Leto were transferred to a secret security chamber, they were soon visited by Dominic Vernius and Kailea supporting Shando who was injured by a maula pistol trying to protect Kailea. The couple told to the children that their House would go renegade, and Duke Paulus Atreides sent a rescue mission for the three heirs. This peaked with a full-scale invasion of Ix by the Tleilaxu, who were helped by the Emperor's Sardaukar troops.
