Robots are machines able of carrying out complex actions.In the pre-Great Convention times Robots were very common, although only a few were Independent robots and most were either dependent on Thinking Machines or external steering and programming by Humans and had no true Artificial intelligence.After Butlerian Jihad/XD only the latter, and Servoks such as Target dummies, were still tolerated.
Cybernetic organisms such as the Titans, Cogitors or Cymeks were not considered robots. Still yet post-jihad cybernetical technology remained very restricted and was usually limited to replacement bodyparts.Also the knowledge of robotic and cybernetic technology had dwindled and only few worlds such as Ix or Richese held quasi-monopolies for more complex (and often semi-legal) mechanical robots and computers.
