- "Arrakis... How ironic that such a sterile planet should be the source of such great power! A desert world, arid, crawling with reeking clods, yet by some twist of fate, the most coveted world in the Imperium. Exploiting its spice has made House Harkonnen rich beyond measure for decades. It might even have offered you a directorship in the CHOAM. If only the Emperor hadn't ordered you to leave... But you're not ready to give up, are you, Baron?"
- ―Piter to Baron Vladimir Harkonnen[src]
Piter de Vries was the twisted Mentat of House Harkonnen, a human computer bred on the planet Tleilax with much less ethical constraints in mind that their regular counterparts. Piter took delight in the suffering of the Harkonnen's enemies. He was an expert at managing the Haroknnen's web of spies and setting up operations to harm their enemies.[1]
