Marty is a recurring figure in Duncan Idaho's visions of a woman tending a garden in a very American Gothic setting.

While Duncan links these Marty and Daniel to the enemy trying to capture the Ithaca, he does not understand why they manifest themselves in such a homely fashion. The name, Marty, is given to this manifestation of Erasmus by Omnius. It is a reference to the independent robot's experiment in martryism during the final Dune novels.
