Markos Atreides was the son of Achilleus Atreides and brother of Phillipos III Atreides.
Along with his brother, they continued the policy to prevent any person from achieving great power, forcing a rapid turnover in the occupants of the Golden Lion Throne. That period became known as the Era of the Princes.
