Maria I Mustami[1] was a member of House Mustami who governed the Corrino Imperium as regent in 1647–1680 AG, the fifth[1] of the Landsraad-led Regency established after Emperor Henoor III's death without immediate heirs.[2] Maria was the second woman to rule the Imperium.[n 1]
Maria succeeded her husband, Avelard II Mustami, as regent.[1] During her regency, the exiled Iraklii Harkonnen secretly stimulated significant unrest in the Imperium through the weapons trade; supporting civil disobedience, small-scale civil wars, revolts, religious progroms, and political unrest. In the end, there was so much chaos that Maria was forced to resign her position in 1680. She was succeeded as regent by Damiano Fulgencio.[2]
