Lanali was a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother of the Council of Mother Superior Harishka, during the events of the Prelude to Dune series.
Reverend Mother Lanali was the director of the department of maps and geographic archives of the Sisterhood. Lanali disagreed the idea of giving the no-ship to Duke Leto Atreides, due to the fact that he had attacked Beakkal and destroyed the War Memorial at the Senasar plateau. She also affirmed that, despite the fact that the Duke Leto was a trustable man, there was an unknown factor of how would future Atreides Dukes use the technology. She also participated in the interrogation of the Richesian inventors Haloa Rund, Flinto Kinnis and Talis Balt, in order to get more information on the matter of the creation of the no-ship, and the life of its inventor, Tenu Chobyn.
