- "A lifelong slave born into service. His name is Kanto, but he's too lowborn for a family name."
"And why did you select him for the competition? He looks like he won't last 15 minutes!"
"I reached an agreement with his owner. Kanto is growing older and can be easily replaced, but he has a hidden talent. One I hope that we can draw forth during the competition." - ―Maxim Dubrov and Vera Kotilla[src]
Kanto was a slave from Ishkal.
Biography[]
Background[]
Kanto was born on Ishkal and spent his entire life in slavery. He was placed in the slave pens on Giedi Prime, where Maxim Dubrov made a deal with his owner.[1]
Awakening[]
Kanto was later chosen to compete in the Harkonnen Family Games alongside Amado Delsin, Hollow Tom, Kaylen Shiff, an unnamed Fremen, the Grey Lady, Poyko Nen and the Morani Twins. They were placed in the Grand Arena, which had been made into a labyrinth. Once the competiton began, he initially avoided contact with his opponents. He later crossed paths with Nen, who was being pursued by the Fremen. As Kanto charged at him, Nen used a hidden mechanism to open trap Kanto in a chamber with venomous rock lizards. As a native of Ishkal, Kanto used his abilities to command the rock lizards.
Kanto later found Nen and the Grey Lady and ordered the lizards to attack. The Grey Lady fled as the lizards tore Nen apart and Kanto attempted to pursue her, but lost her trail. He encountered the Fremen, who killed half of the lizards, causing Kanto to retreat. He was then attacked and killed by the twins.[1]
