Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (8 May 1938 - 10 March 2012), also known under his professional pseudonym Moebius, was a French artist, comic book illustrator and writer, well-known for his decades long work in Franco-Belgian comics and various graphic novels.
In the 1970s, Giraud was invited by Alejandro Jodorowsky to work on pre-production concept art for his planned, famously overambitious film adaptation of Dune, along with a number of other concept artists (including H. R. Giger and Chris Foss).
Giraud was responsible for all the character concept designs for the planned film, including their wardrobe, armour and personal items. In addition to main characters, he also designed a number of concepts for various extras and the main factions of the Dune universe.
Despite Jodorowsky's failure to create his adaptation of Dune, Giraud and Jodorowsky continued to collaborate on many further art projects afterwards, including Jodorowsky's graphic novel The Incal.
