The Imperial Armed Forces was the original military force of the Corrino Empire. The Armed Forces replaced the Army of Humanity of the League of Nobles in 88 BG following the Battle of Corrin, as Emperor Faykan Corrino needed a better military structure to support his new Imperium.
The new navy was fully developed by the time of the galactic civil war, in which it fought both the forces of Venport Holdings, whose Spacing Fleet transported and serviced much of the Armed Forces, and the Butlerian movement. In the years leading up to the war, Roderick Corrino offer told his brother, Emperor Salvador Corrino, that the Armed Forces needed better leaders and better organization.
Shortly before becoming Emperor himself during the war after the assassination of his brother, Roderick decided to crack down. The new Emperor vowed to eliminate corrupt officers and whip the military into shape, but recognised that it would take time and considerable effort, and that some of the noble houses would not be happy to see those officers relieved of duty, because of the flow of political and financial favors that had led to them receiving their positions. Ultimately, Roderick succeeded in creating stronger Imperial forces.
In the period after the Salusa Incident of the early 2000s AG, Hassik Corrino III saw an oppurtunity to create an even more efficient and intimidating fighting force, and ordered the training the first practically unbeatable and extremely loyal Sardaukar on the wasteland of Salusa Secundus.
