Captain Iakin Nefud was the captain of the House Harkonnen guard.
Biography[]
Nefud was a Corporal serving in Baron Vladimir Harkonnen's personal guard. Nefud accompanied his superior, Captain Umman Kudu, when the Harkonnens attacked the Atreides on Arrakis and captured Duke Leto Atreides. When the Duke attempted to use a poisoned tooth to kill the Baron, he instead killed Kudu and the Baron's Mentat, Piter De Vries. Watching the scene unfold from outside the room, Nefud quickly identified the poison gas and made sure none of it escaped, before escorting the Baron to safety.
Impressed by Nefud's quick thinking and efficiency, the Baron immediately promoted him to the rank of Guard Captain. The Baron was aware that Nefud was a Semuta addict, and to Nefud, promotion also meant that he would never again lack for the drug.
Nefud's first task as Captain was to investigate how the Duke had managed to get the poison tooth past his predecessor. Nefud carried out an investigation and reported his findings to the Baron, as well as bringing news that Thufir Hawat and Doctor Kynes had been captured. The Baron ordered Nefud to kill Kynes, an order which Nefud initially balked at, arguing that killing an Imperial servant would have consequences. In response, the Baron ordered Nefud to make Kynes' death look like an accident.
Shocked that Hawat had been captured alive, the Baron instructed Nefud to play along with his suspicions that it was the Lady Jessica who had betrayed the Atreides, and not Dr. Yueh. Nefud also ensured that Hawat's meals contained a residual poison, and an antidote that could be withdrawn if Hawat could not be wooed to the Baron's service.
Three years later, Nefud continued to serve the Baron. Whilst he was in a Semuta trance in his quarters, the Baron angrily stormed in, furious that Nefud had failed to recognize his nephew, Feud Rautha, as a threat to his person and missed a potential assassination attempt. Nefud managed to avoid the Baron's wrath and restore himself to his good graces, killing the Slave Master who had conspired with Feyd in response to the assassination plot.
Nefud's ultimate fate was unknown, though it was possible he was killed during the Battle of Arrakeen.
