Holtzman engines are the special, space-folding engines used by the Spacing Guild heighliner starship design. They allow a spaceship to successfully travel through fold space, enabling faster-than-light speed(s). This unique type of engine was invented by Norma Cenva and is incredibly complex, although it was often fitted to conventional spacecraft during the Butlerian Jihad replaceing the old faster than light engines used by the league of nobles .
