Expanded Dune
This article or section refers to elements from Expanded Dune.

A tetralogy of books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, set during the time of the Corrino Empire and the Ascension of House Atreides. These books are "interquels" taking place in the time between Frank Herbert's original novels, they also flash-back to events in Paul's childhood.

Paul of Dune was the completion of the three-book contract that began with Hunters of Dune and the following three books represent a new three-book contract. In July 2010 it was announced that the final two books of the series had been cancelled, and the next Dune book would be The Sisterhood of Dune.

Paul of Dune

Paul of Dune was released on September 16, 2008; and covers in seven sections, two separate parts of the life of Paul Atreides. One part is the youth of Paul, when he grew up during the War of Assassins. The second part deals with the events after Frank Herbert's Dune, when Paul's Jihad spread throughout the Imperium.

The Winds of Dune

The Winds of Dune (previously announced as Jessica of Dune) was released on August 4, 2009. It covers the events of the life of Lady Jessica Atreides, as she returns to Arrakis to investigate the disappearance of her son, the Emperor Muad'Dib, after his blindness in Dune Messiah.

It also covers, in flashback narrative, Paul Atreides's youth when he spent time with Tleilaxu Face Dancers in the Jongleur circus, with Bronso Vernius of Ix. Another flashback narrative is one in which Jessica remembers a Bene Gesserit plot of Paul's younger days.

The Throne of Dune and Leto of Dune

Two more book in the series were planned, but have both been put on indefinite hold.The Throne of Dune (previously announced as Irulan of Dune) would have concluded the story arc begun in The Winds of Dune, whereas Leto of Dune (possibly to be re-titled The Golden Path of Dune) was intended to illustrate events in Leto's reign following Children of Dune. It is unknown when (or even if, seeing as they would fall outside the current contract) these books will be released.
