The title Hero of the Jihad was given to those members of the League of Nobles who were viewed as to have contributed the most to the war effort during the Butlerian Jihad, and helped achieve a decisive human victory.

The first person called a Hero of the Jihad was the prolific Ixian inventor Tio Holtzman, who was hailed as such after playing a key part in deflecting the assault on Poritrin in 176 BG. However, it is not known if he ever officially recieved the title or if it even existed at this point.

The title had been officially created by 175 BG, and Primero Xavier Harkonnen was declared a Hero of the Jihad after helping liberate the planet Ix from Omnius. However, this was reversed in 164 BG when Xavier was declared a traitor against the League and the Jihad. Xavier's son Primero Quentin Butler was also given the title of Hero of the Jihad at some point in his military career, and this was never removed.

Vorian Atreides was the greatest and most famous Hero of the Jihad, and the one who had this title used the most to display his great military success. He had earned the title at least by 164 BG, when it was used by his partner Leronica Tergiet.

The last Viceroy of the League of Nobles and the first Corrino Emperor, Faykan Butler, who was the son of Quentin Butler, was also a Hero of the Jihad.
