"I told them this would happen. You can't drive the workers harder and harder and take away their outlets at the same time. The pressure can only build so much before it explodes."
―Hadyn to Davros[src]

High Prefect Hadyn was a character in Five Days at Carthag.

Biography[]

Awakening[]

Hadyn argued with his wife, stating that House Harkonnen had been punished after the Battle of Windsack because her cousin, Glossu Rabban had destroyed the moonfish industry of Caladan. She questioned how the two were related and he replied that his employer, Count Hasimir Fenring, had spearheaded the investigation into the destruction of Windsack and been heavily invested in the moonfish industry, losing over a third of his fortune when it collapsed. She agreed that if anyone had deliberately caused such a loss to their house, she would skin them alive.

They summonded their daughters, whom he chastised for addressing their mother as if she were a commoner. As they prepared to leave for the arena, the girls were angry to learn that Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen would not be present, instead travelling to Rossak as part of a hunting party. They no longer wished to go, but Hadyn ordered them to, as he had imported their dresses from Chusuk. He told them that they had no chance with Feyd, whose mate would be chosen for political advantage alone.

There was a knock at the door, which Hadyn to reveal Davros, who announced that he had grim tidings. Hadyn dismissed his daughters, but ordered his wife to stay. Davros informed him that alcohol had been illegally distributed, resulting in drunken debauchery throughout Carthag. Haydn stated that this was a predictable result of working the pyons harder and taking away their outlets, having advised agains it himself. He suggested that they do nothing, as Davros reported that the crowd were happy and excited to see Argus Veer, leading Hadyn to believe that they would wear themselves out before they could cause any unrest. They then departed for the arena in their groundcar.[1]
