Hans Ruedi Giger (5 February 1940 – 12 May 2014) was a Swiss artist.
He was approached by Alejandro Jodorowsky to create designs for House Harkonnen in his unsuccessful attempt to adapt Dune after being shown a catalogue of his work by Salvador Dalí. Though the film was cancelled, he created a series of furniture designs called the Harkonnen Chairs.
Giger was later the lead designer on Alien, including designing the Xenomorph. He worked with several of his Dune collaborators, with Dan O'Bannon writing the screenplay and Chris Foss and Jean Giraud working as concept artists.
He was interviewed in the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune.
