Gerd Netfzer is a German special effects supervisor with thirty one years of experience.[1]
General overview[]
As a child, he always spent the holidays at his relatives’ mixed farm near Heilbronn. He enjoyed working outdoors with animals, and of course tractor driving. He trained as a farmer and then studied agricultural engineering. His apprenticeship was served on an arable and pig farm in Öhringen near Heilbronn, and on a dairy farm in his home town of Schwäbisch Hall. It’s a period on which the cheerful Swabian looks back with great fondness, although he soon moved on from farming.[2] He won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work as a special effects supervisor on Blade Runner 2049.[3][4] He shared the award with John Nelson, Paul Lambert and Richard R. Hoover. In 2022, Nefzer won his second Academy Award for his work on Dune, which he shared this award with Lambert, Tristan Myles and Brian Connor.[5]
