The first moon of Arrakis was the larger of the planet's two moons.

A notable terrain feature of the moon is a darker, weathered area, vaguely resembling a human hand or clenched human fist. It's often referred to colloquially as "the Hand of God".

Behind the scenes[]

The Fremen traditions of seeing certain established symbolic shapes in the surfaces of the two moons of Arrakis is similar to the traditions of various Earth cultures, who saw certain patterns, shapes, and figures on the surface of Earth's Moon. (The human habit of seeing certain images or patterns of images in unrelated things is known as pareidolia.)
