The First Protectorate[1] (561–603 AG) was a government set up in the Imperium in 561 when Kalus I al-Qair, previously regent under the Corrino emperor Ezhar I Palaigodes, assumed sole power with the style Protector, temporarily removing the House Corrino from its imperial rule.[1] Kalus was succeeded as Protector by one of his relatives, Harmon II al-Qair, in 575.[1]
Harmon had imperial aspirations, going so far as stripping Count Abulurd III Harkonnen of his titles when he did not support his plans.[2] The threat of the House of al-Qair usurping House Corrino was ended by Iason Atreides, who managed to settle the differences between different branches of House Corrino and persuaded Harmon to step down in favor of the Corrino heir Audrii I in 603.[3]
