- "Of course, the Emperor at the time, Shaddam's father, Elrood, waited until Duke Paulus and his forces withdrew before exacting revenge. Elrood quietly depolyed a Sardaukar legion to round up the families of the rebels and ordered them all burned alive, man, woman and child. To hide his crime, Elrood ordered their ashes to be mixed with sculptor's clay and formed into a statue of himself, raising his sword in victory. I guess that's what questioning authority gets you."
- ―Beatriz Luna to the Prisoner[src]
Padishah Emperor Elrood Corrino IX was the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe and the father of Shaddam Corrino IV.
Biography[]
Background[]
Elrood Corrino IX called upon Duke Paulus Atreides to help him put an end to the Ecazi Revolt. Once the rebels were defeated, Paulus offered amnesty to any rebels who agreed to an unconditional surrender, which most of them accepted. However, once Paulus and his forces had withdrawn, Elrood deployed a legion of Sardaukar to round up the families of the rebels and burn them alive. To cover up his crime, he ordered that their ashes be mixed with sculptor's clay and formed into a statue of himself raising his sword in victory.
Elrood later died and was succeeded by his son, Shaddam Corrino IV.[1]
Awakening[]
The Prisoner approached Beatriz Luna at her stall in Arrakeen, where she told them of Elrood's role in the Ecazi Revolt.[1]
