Lady Elara Moray Trieu was as an advisor and the concubine of the Padishah Emperor Frederick IV. She authored a letter to Reverend Mother Marius Alethea Blasco, explaining the situation on Arrakis.[1]
Biography[]
A devoted sister of the Bene Gesserit, Elara also lived among the Fremen for a period. During her time with the Fremen, she drank the Water of Life and survived the Weirding ritual. She was capable of using the Voice, attempting to manipulate both the Emperor and even the Reverend Mother Marius.[2]
Dune II[]
Dune 2000[]
Lady Elara was the one who brought The Commander to Arrakis on an imperial liner. She introduced herself to them on the ship while in orbit and told them that The Commander would die on Arrakis, before admitting that The Sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit had been wrong before, from time to time. She mentioned that if The Emperor found out she helped them, she would be executed, since he was not particularly compassionate.
She tells the Commander they were here because of a prophecy, that the Bene Gesserit previously studied their bloodline and fate, seeing them die many times. However, since they had also seen the Commander "rise to command vast armies bringing peace to Arrakis.... once" Elara deemed it worth the risk of the Emperor's wrath in bringing them to Dune. The Bene Gesserit believed in this prophecy and seked this very outcome.

Emperor: Battle for Dune[]
Elara was imprisoned on Salusa Secundus and had an audience with the Reverend Mother,[2] secretly replaced with a Face Dancer by The Tleilaxu, who had infiltrated the Sisterhood.
Later in the conflict, Elara was taken back to Arrakis and restrained by the Spacing Guild to empower the Emperor Worm.[3]
Trivia[]
- The Reverend Mother and Shafla mention that Lady Elara drank the Water of Life, making Elara a Reverend Mother as well. However, first names of Reverend Mothers are typically Latin male names, while Elara is a mythical Greek feminine name.
- Elara is partially inspired by Jessica Atreides, given that both are central story characters whom are Bene Gesserit sisters that are bound concubines to nobles and have drank the Water of Life while among the Fremen.
