Dune: Messiah, alternatively Dune Messiah or Dune 3, is an upcoming film adaptation of the book of the same name.[1] It will be the third and final Dune film directed by Denis Villeneuve, after Dune: Part One (2021) and Part Two (2024). A release date for Dune: Messiah has not yet been announced.

12 years following Dune: Part Two, Dune Messiah follows Paul Atreides, now Emperor Muad’Dib, navigating his immense power while battling political foes and a conspiracy within his circle. As House Atreides faces collapse, the real danger emerges for Paul’s lover, Chani, and their unborn heir.[2]

Director Denis Villeneuve always envisioned his Dune films has being a trilogy, as he told Entertainment Weekly in 2021:[1]

"I always envisioned three movies. It's not that I want to do a franchise, but this is Dune, and Dune is a huge story. In order to honor it, I think you would need at least three movies. That would be the dream. To follow Paul Atreides and his full arc would be nice."

In December 2023, Villeneuve said that the film script for the third film was almost finished.[4] On April 4, 2024, Legendary confirmed that a third Dune film was in development.[1][5]

A release date has not been announced. An untitled "Denis Villeneuve Event Film" is slated for release in December 2026, which could be the third Dune film.[6]

As of October 2024, the film's script was still be worked on.[2]

Shooting for the movie began in July 2025.
