"I don't think I know you. Greetings, just the same."
―Duncan Idaho to the Prisoner[src]

Duncan Idaho was the swordmaster of House Atreides.

Biography[]

Background[]

Duncan Idaho became the swordmaster of House Atreides and trained Ariste Atreides, the daughter of Duke Leto and Lady Jessica, in combat.[1] The Atreides' Suk Doctor, Wellington Yueh, betrayed them to the Harkonnens, which Jessica discovered with her abilities as a Truthsayer, allowing the Atreides to prepare for the Harkonnens' attack and survive the Battle of Arrakeen. The two houses later became engaged in a War of Assassins.[2]

Awakening[]

Idaho was stationed at Helius Gate, where he was approached by the Prisoner, who wished to deliver a message from Seron Varlin. Idaho was surprised to learn that Varlin was alive and asked where he was. The Prisoner informed him that Varlin had fallen on hard times and was now in the backalleys of Harko Village. They then stated that Varlin wished them to forge a damasteel sword. Despite his trepidation of unleashing such a weapon on Arrakis, Idaho agreed to teach them how to forge one, as was his duty as a disciple of Ginaz. He then advised them of the materials that were needed and gave them an Imperial permit that was good for one forging.[2]
