"May thy knife chip and shatter![1]"
―Paul to Feyd

The duel between Duke Paul Atreides and Baron Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen took place in December 10193 AG (10191 AG in Adaptation), before Paul's ascension to the Golden Lion Throne as Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe, and essentially ended the Desert War.

History[]

Pre fight[]

After defeating the Sardaukar, Paul Atreides and the Fremen confronted the Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV at Arrakeen. Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen lurked in the crowds of the Emperor's forces, now the Siridar-Baron of House Harkonnen after Alia killed Vladimir. Paul asked 'if a Harkonnen is merely hiding behind a technicality out of cowardice.'. Enraged, Feyd-Rautha declared Kanly, just as Paul's father had to Feyd's uncle years ago. Gurney Halleck pleaded with Paul to let him fight the young baron, reminding Paul that he had promised him a Harkonnen to kill. Paul, wishing to fight Feyd himself, stepped out of his Stillsuit and unsheathed his knife. Jessica Atreides informed Paul that Bene Gesserits often implanted words in dangerous individuals that would immobilise them, but Paul brushed this prospect off, wanting a fair fight and to end the Atreides-Harkonnen feud permanently. Shaddam lent Feyd his blade for the battle. Paul yelled 'May thy knife chip and shatter!' as Jamis had to him many years ago and the battle begun.

Paul agreed even knowing that it is possible he would die, but after a difficult fight during which Feyd-Rautha attempted treachery in the form of a poisoned knife and needle, Paul eventually triumphed.
