Draigo Roget was a student of the early mentat school, which was established by Gilbertus Albans on the planet Lampadas after the Battle of Corrin. Gilbertus considered Draigo to be his finest student, not knowing that he had been recruited by Josef Venport to learn the ways of the mentat for the purposes of advancing Venport Holdings.
Biography[]
Early Life at the Mentat School[]
Draigo Roget is a student of the original Mentat School, also served as a teaching assistant. He paid for his considerable tuition with a gift from an unnamed benefactor (actually Josef Venport), and nearly finished with everything the Mentat School could teach him in just five years. He was arguably the best student the school had ever had. Gilbertus had never met anyone quite so brilliant.
When Draigo was about to graduate with the highest honors in the history of the school, Gilbertus asked him to consider remaining on Lampadas as an instructor, but Draigo was noncommittal. At that time, Draigo was able to won nearly forty percent of the engagements in war-game against Gilbertus.
Gilbertus considered telling Draigo about Erasmus for several times, but eventually decided he could not take that risk yet.
Before graduation, Draigo and Gilbertus made one last cooperative effort between them, discovered a prominent machine industrial facility from a star system labeled as Thonaris.
When the commencement ceremony is over, Draigo came to Gilbertus to thank him. Gilbertus asked Draigo to stay with them, but Draigo said that his destiny lay in the whole Imperium.
Battle in the Thonaris Star System[]
Freshly graduated from schooling, Draigo went to Kolhar to work for his benefactor Josef Venport. He was among the first of the candidates Josef seeded into the school. After regarded the mutating forms of the Navigator-candidates, Draigo told Josef about his projection of the machine shipyard as a gift.
Draigo had identified the Thonaris star system as the likely location. However, scouts for Arjen Gates had also stumbled upon the place. To take the outpost away from his business rival, Josef decided to launch an outright attack. The takeover was straightforward and efficient under Draigo’s command and Josef was very satisfied. Draigo expressed his concern that it would be very bad for them if the Butlerians were to discover those operations. But Josef didn’t care about it.
With the help of Gilbertus, Manford guided his warships to the Thonaris star system. He was going to destroy the robotic industrial facilities as well as anyone who didn’t surrender. Although their military force was far superior to Venport’s, Josef ordered Draigo to find him a way to hurt the Butlerian. In a remarkably short time, Draigo managed to concoct an imaginative plan that took advantage of every possible scrap of material the Thonaris shipyards had to offer. Though Gilbertus saw through the strategy, it caused destruction to Manford’s ships. Then Draigo realized that his former teacher was among their opponents. Gilbertus took command and would locate them in moments. They bolted for a small survival ship and drifted away. Moments later, a barrage of projectiles tore open the empty admin-hub. Draigo thought that they were not going to escape. He contacted Gilbertus to bid him farewell. The Headmaster said that he recognized Draigo’s tactics and was proud of the student. Draigo switched off the transmission. Just then, a large VenHold ship appeared, Norma folded space to retrieve them. Josef and Draigo was safe, but all the facilities were destroyed.
In the battle, Draigo learned that even the most detailed Mentat projections are fallible because prescience is a variable that can never be factored into Mentat calculations.
Physical Appearance[]
- Draigo wore black clothing from head to toe, which accentuated his long, jet-black hair, black eyebrows, and dark eyes.
