- "I am Cyprian Io, Imperial Planetologist as appointed by our Padishah Emperor. I have, after years of hardship, risen to my rightful station."
- ―Cyprian Io to the Prisoner[src]
Cyprian Io was an Imperial Planetologist.
Biography[]
Background[]
Cyprian Io grew up resenting his older brother, the Na-Duke of their family, who spent all of his time at the capital while Cyprian was kept at their estate. Cyprian was taught at an academy by tutors and scholars and at age eight he was kidnapped by a gang of Opeeachean thugs. He negotiated with one of the members, Portifoy, and convinced him to betray the others and return him to his home. Portifoy was rewarded by being appointed as Cyprian's bodyguard. As an adult, Cyprian was appointed as an Imperial Planetologist by his great uncle, Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV.[1]
Awakening[]
Cyprian was approached by the Prisoner in The Salusan Bull. He ordered Portifoy to get rid of them, but reconsidered when he thought of the lecture that his grandmother, Orilis Io, would give him. He told them of his childhood and his duties as an Imperial Planetologist. He took offence when they asked him about his credentials, claiming the position was his birthright. He asked them if Hasimir Fenring had put them up to it, stating that Fenring knew he held no authority on Arrakis.[1]
