Emperor Corrin V[1] reigned as Emperor of the Known Universe nine times between 1846 AG and 1969 AG, during the Era of the Princes.[1]
Corrin's brief reigns and frequent depositions and restorations were the result of the machinations of House Atreides, economically dominant in this period. Phillipos III Atreides and Markos Atreides forced a rapid turnover of emperors, seeking to prevent any one dynast from achieving too much power.[2]
Reigns[]
Corrin first became emperor in 1846, succeeding his uncle Irulon I. He ruled for only two years before being deposed in favor of his second cousin, Sidir VI, in 1848. Sidir ruled until 1862, when Corrin was restored to the throne. This second reign lasted until 1877, when Sidir was restored and ruled until 1882, when Corrin was restored for a second time. Corrin's third reign lasted only until 1884, when he was deposed in favor of his cousin Ezhar III. Corrin was restored for a fourth reign in 1897, succeeding his cousin Audrii III, but was deposed in the same year in favor of his own son, Corrin VI. Corrin VI was deposed in 1908 and Corrin V was restored for a fifth reign, ruling until 1919 when he was deposed in favor of his other son, Corrin VII.[1]
Corrin V was restored to the throne for a sixth reign in 1935, again succeeding Corrin VI, and ruled until 1937, when he was deposed in favor of Audrii III. Audrii then ruled until 1938, when Corrin V was restored. He then ruled until 1940, when he was deposed in favor of Costin III, a grandson of Irulon I. In 1955, Corrin V was restored to the throne yet again, succeeding Sidir VII (a son of Sidir VI) and ruled until 1956 when he was replaced with Sidir VII's brother Negara III. Corrin V's ninth and final reign began in 1965, when he again succeeded Sidir VI on the throne. He ruled until 1969, when he was succeeded again by Audrii III.[1]
