Chardin Klees was the Mentat of House Harkonnen during the Barony of Gunseng Harkonnen. He helped Gunseng make wise financial decisions and form optimal political alliances. When Gunseng wished to destroy the House Sarobella, Klees created a formal document charging that Duke Fernandez conspired to increase his CHOAM holdings at the expense of House Corrino. Klees document was successful and the Duke was killed and his planet was repossessed by the Sardaukar. The intellectually disabled son of Gunseng, Araskin Harkonnen had long held a vendetta against his father influenced by his mother who was a member of House Sarobella. This culminated in the death of Gunseng by Araskin. Enraged, Araskin moved on to his brother Vladimir Harkonnen, who was Gunseng's favourite, and began strangling him. Chardin quickly stabbed Araskin with a poison needle and killed him instantly. Klees died in 10162 under the service of Vladimir. After the death of Chardin the Baron employed a succession of Mentats and he had them killed when they had outlived their usefulness. No one was ever able to replace Klees in the Baron's eyes. .
