Byron Merritt (b. 1965) is Frank Herbert's grandson through Penny and the nephew of Brian Herbert. He is also a producer.
General overview[]
Merritt is perhaps best known as the beleaguered board admin of the official Dune forums, he also runs his own film review site, is the author of a number of short stories and has written articles on his grandfather and the Dune screen adaptations. He is a member of Herbert Properties LLC and has attended signings and conventions (such as Dragon Con) with his uncle, Brian Herbert.[1] When asked what some of his first impressions of his grandfather, the late Frank Herbert and his Dune novels when he first read them, Merritt said that they were, "Mind blowing. It was unlike anything I'd ever read before. Reading Dune truly changed the way I looked at literature. I looked back at some of the previous novels I'd read and laughed at them after I'd finished reading Dune. It set the bar incredibly high for the science fiction genre (and the literary world in general)".[2]
