Bela Tegeuse was the fifth planet in the Alpha Leporis (Kuentsing) binary star system.
History
It was reputed to be the third stopping place of the Zensunni forced migration long before the Butlerian Jihad.
They possibly left it when the planet was controlled by the thinking machines and it became a Synchronized World. During that time, its capital was Comati.
When the Jihad erupted, it was the first target of the Jihad to be freed, however soon it was reclaimed by the machines.
Bela Tegeuse-Omnius was the first to receive the Omnius 'update' from Earth which was corrupted by Vorian Atreides and the political structure of the planet soon deteriorated. While the planet was recovering, Hecate sabotaged it and destroyed Omnius.
During the protracted campaign, and before the Jihad could secure the world, it was captured by the renegade Titans and their neo-cymek followers and most of the populace joined their forces; for a while became their base of operations until they moved to Richese, although Juno remained there as a 'Queen'. It was devastated by Omnius when the Titans retreated to Hessra, toward the end of the Jihad, but it was reclaimed again by the Titans after the Great Purge.
Millennia later, Lady Shando Vernius hid there until Imperial Sardaukar forces executed her. Bela Tegeuse was also a planet that was captured by the Honored Matres at some time before the death of the Great Honored Matre Dama.
Ecology
Bela Tegeuse had an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere, and low photosynthesis levels. It's photosynthesis level was partly due to the dimness of both its stars (a red secondary and a white dwarf primary), and partly because of its constant thick cloud cover locking the weather cycle into an unbreakable pattern of rain and gloom.
During the time of Emperor Paul Atreides, it was a swampy world.
