Avelard II Mustami,[1] also known simply as Avelard II,[2] was a member of House Mustami who governed the Corrino Imperium as regent in 1624–1647 AG, the fourth[1] of the Landsraad-led Regency established after Emperor Henoor III's death without immediate heirs.[3]
Regency[]
During Avelard's tenure as regent, the Imperium experienced unprecedent economic growth.[2]
One of the side effects of the prosperous Imperium was an increased demand for mentats. Under severe political pressure, Avelard wished the Order of Mentats to expand its training program and alter the size, pace or quality of the training efforts. Avelard came within a whisker of sending troops to Tleilax to force this decision. The troops were composed of united Sardaukar and Landsraad strength. Proctor Makarfo Bonn resisted the regent's demands and persuaded Avelard that neither Imperium, CHOAM, nor Landsraad would gain from 'watered-down' Mentat training. After the crisis, the Tleilaxu claimed that Avelard had retreated due to fear of them resisting with force; this claim has been met with uniform skepticism considering the overbearing strength of the Sardaukar and Landsraad forces.[2]
Mustami's tenure as regent lasted until 1647, when he was succeeded by his wife Maria I Mustami.[1]
