The chronicles are obviously intricate, thought provoking, unique, and expansive. With that being said, I also really like the Brian Herbert books. As long as you expect them to read differently, they are pretty exciting and cover a variety of topics (Butlerian Jihad, origin of Spacing Guild, the Oracle, Machine Crusade, end of Dune universe, etc). In fact, I feel Brian is a better action writer, while Frank was a better universe architect/philosopher.
Fans claim they aren’t cannon because Frank didn’t write them but I think they should be. If anyone knew the story better, it would have been Brian. Plus Dune 7 & 8 are allegedly from the thousand of pages of notes Frank wrote for the Dune 7 finale. I read the Legends Trilogy, Dune Chronicles, and Brian’s two part sequel, and feel it just makes Dune even better. I Highly recommend them.
